Archeology

In conjunction with the preservation process, two archaeology digs were undertaken at the White Hill Mansion, in 2011, and in 2013. The Field school from Monmouth University lead by Dr. Richard Viet preformed the digs leading to many discoveries. From artifacts dating to a Native American winter settlement up to the late 18th and 19th centuries. Pottery, architectural materials, outbuilding foundations, and much more were found. Over 60,000 different artifacts were uncovered in total. These digs were crucial to the preservation process but also gave a deeper understanding and glimpsed into the daily life, cultural influence, and habitation that took place at and around the White Hill mansion through its long and fantastic journey through history.
